About the event
The K12 Future Collaborative Spring Summit '25 will bring together 30-45 Asst. Sups / CAOs / Exec. Directors from midsized, Midwestern districts to discuss 'The Changing Needs of Today’s Learner & Educator'.
The summit will include panel discussions. small group conversations, and keynote talks from experts, including:
Rebecca Winthrop - A senior fellow and director of the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution. Her research focuses on education globally, with special attention to the skills young people need to thrive in work, life, and as constructive citizens. She also recently co-authored 'The Disengaged Teen' which will be available in January.
Dr. Keisha Scarlett - Former Superintendent of Saint Louis Public Schools, former CAO of Seattle Public Schools, and current Founder & CEO of WOVƎN Consulting.
Martin Creel - w/ TeachAI, leading content development for the global AI Literacy Framework and guidance on the future of computer science education in an age of AI.
Educators Thriving - has done some amazing research and identified that there are six key factors that predict educator well-being:
Responsive leadership and supportive culture
Acceptance
Adaptability
Professional growth orientation
Personal well-being
The absence of depletion
We will be exploring and discussing their 2024 Well-being Report Card: The Inside Read on Burnout.
The Students of Mason City Schools (OH) - will be presenting Experiential Learning Program (XLP): Discover Your True North. Special thanks to our member, Deputy Superintendent - Amy Brennan for having them join us!
District Visit Opportunity: Hilliard City Schools (Feb. 19th, 9:30-11:30am; ~20 min from hotel)
Before the Summit officially starts, attendees are invited to join us as we visit Hilliard City Schools.
Our time together will start at the Innovation Campus to see 6-8 students. The student experience on the Innovation Campus consists of strategic programming that strives to meet the needs of our fast-paced, constantly changing society. Designed as a way to enhance the opportunities that students have within the district, the Innovation Campus serves as a centralized destination for students from the district’s three high schools and three middle schools.
While there, we will also explore the Newcomer Center which supports English Learners (ELs) in grades 6-12 who are new to the country (0-1 year) at the emerging English level (0-1 on OELPS/OELPA). Staff provide a highly effective, culturally responsive instructional program for students in grades 6-12 where they can acquire the essential English language skills necessary to access broader academic and social opportunities.
From there, we will visit Hoffman Trails Elementary and tour their Innovative Discovery Center (1 of 16 in the district). These centers were designed in partnership with Amazon Web Services to engage Hilliard students through opportunities to explore interests, careers, and skills that will support them as they move toward selecting their career path in their later years of school.
Lastly, hear from the Director of Innovation and Extended Learning to see how Hilliard Schools seeks to engage all K-12 students through partnerships with the larger community and an intentional offering of experiences for students.
